French Lager5%440 Can

Crisp, clean and refreshing with soft malt, light floral hops and a dry finish. A French-style lager brewed in the Vale of Belvoir, named after the French-built Cambrai locomotive that worked the local ironstone quarries.

Built in France in the late 1800s, the locomotive that became known as Cambrai spent the early part of its life working on French railways before eventually finding its way across the Channel. Decades later, it ended up here in the Vale of Belvoir, working around the ironstone quarries near Eaton. A French-built engine, already approaching seventy years old, spending the final part of its working life amongst the quarry faces, iron-rich rock and heavy industry of rural Leicestershire. That unlikely journey is where this beer gets its name. Rather than trying to recreate a French beer from a century ago, we wanted to take the connection and make something we'd actually want to drink: a crisp French-style lager with a subtle continental character, brewed here in the Vale that Cambrai eventually called home. The can carries the same story. Geological sections, quarry faces and ironstone seams represent the ground she worked amongst, while the restrained blue, white and red details are a nod to where her journey began. Born in France. Worked in the Vale. CAMBRAI. IRONSTONE BREW CO. Brewed in the Vale of Belvoir.
